What to Celebrate Nov. 25 thru Dec. 1, 2019
As November draws to a close holiday celebrations and preparations are in full swing. We hope you enjoy them to the fullest.
But don’t let them crowd out time for other fun. Some unofficial celebrations take advantage of the holiday season & family gatherings (like Game & Puzzle Week). Others give you a fun little break from the hustle & bustle.
Still others are just delicious. You won’t want to miss them.
So do find a few moments to take a peek and plan your week. And of course, remember to …
Enjoy!
Celebrate for the rest of November
The holidays are a delicious season. And we can make them even more so with these monthly celebrations. Sprinkle your celebrating over multiple days.
Or add pomegranate & raisin bread to your Thanksgiving feast. And roast your meat choice. Voilà! You’ve celebrated 3 months in one fell swoop.
National Pomegranate Month: Enjoy the beautiful, delicious, and healthy pomegranate as a snack, as a drink, and in cooking or baking. And go ahead & find as many excuses to eat & drink it as you can, because it’s packed full of nutrients. And it offers a wide variety of potential health benefits.
National Raisin Bread Month: Pop some raisin bread in the toaster, then slather it with butter, honey, or whatever you like best. Then enjoy. If you can, make your raisin bread (or cinnamon raisin bread!) yourself. Try this recipe if you don’t have one of your own. Then use some of your yummy raisin bread to create a decadent breakfast of a French Toast casserole. You won’t be sorry!
National Roasting Month: Roast your meats for November! Roasts are so simple but so delicious. The oven does all the hard work. And you can roast any meat you choose. Or roast an all veggie meal. So pick your meats, veggies, & seasoning and get roasting!
And remember, there’s still time to celebrate Adopt a Senior Pet Month. Or to make a shelter pet’s holiday brighter by donating to Wishbones for Pets Month.
And if your holiday shopping includes toys, you may want to start celebrating this December holiday a little early: Safe Toys and Gifts Month. Because a safe holiday is a happy one!
Weekly Celebrations for November’s final week
This week is all about family, fun, & savings! How can you beat that?
National Game and Puzzle Week (November 24 – 30, 2019): As you gather with family & friends to celebrate the holiday, skip the bickering and dive straight into the fun! Play games & do puzzles. Enjoy each other’s company. After all, at least some of you have probably traveled for this week. Make your time together count.
National Deal Week (November 26 – December 2, 2019): This week celebrates the amazing deals (especially online) you’ll find for Black Friday and Cyber Monday (and the days surrounding them). It’s the busiest shopping period of the year, and both shoppers and retailers want to take full advantage!
American Sand Sculpting Championship (November 22 – December 1, 2019): If your holiday travels will be taking you to the Fort Myers Beach area, you might like to check out this fun competition, with more than 40 sculptures, music, vendors, and activities for the kids.
Celebration Days coming up for Nov. 25 thru Dec. 1
Thursday the 28th is, of course, Thanksgiving here in the US. But that’s not all it is. Switch things up a bit by celebrating French toast before having your feast.
And in between preparing for the holiday, take some time for yourself to unwind & recharge. And wear a hat. Be blasé. Send an e-card. Or call in well to work.
Treat yourself to a parfait or a Bavarian cream pie. Indulge in a decadent mousse. And then be good & eat a red apple.
However you choose to celebrate this week, make it a fun-tastic one!
November 25:
International Hat Day: On this day people across the globe wear hats! So join them. Maybe even buy yourself a brand new hat. Take a selfie of yourself sporting your favorite hat & share it. Just have fun with it! This day is different from National Hat Day in January. Which is totally fine, ‘cause that means you get two days to have fun with hats!
Shopping Reminder Day: This day reminds us all that Christmas is just 30 days away … so get shopping! For anyone who doesn’t celebrate Christmas, use it as a reminder of the number of shopping days until the celebration you do observe. If that’s Hanukkah, you have 27 days. For Kwanzaa, you get 31 days. If you prefer Festivus, there’s 28 shopping days left for you (although if you’re celebrating that one right the only things you’ll need to buy are the Festivus pole & food for dinner).
Play Day with Dad: Celebrate the inaugural Play Day with Dads by having a fun day with your kids. Or with your own dad. Or both! The day’s intent is for fathers to foster strong bonds with their young children. But you’re never too old to need time with Dad. And multigenerational play-dates can strengthen the whole family. But if there are young children involved, make them the focus! And try to do what they want to do as much as possible.
National Parfait Day: Enjoy parfaits all day! Depending on the ingredients you layer together parfaits are equally appropriate for breakfast, lunch, or dessert. Or even a snack. So get creative for the day! You could even have a parfait party & let guests create their own.
Blasé Day: On this day you have permission to be appropriately apathetic about anything and everything. Well, almost everything. You can’t be blasé about hats, parfaits, shopping, and dads if you’re going to celebrate those things properly! 😉
November 26:
National Cake Day: On this day you must eat cake. Sheet cakes. Layer cakes. Bundt cakes. Chocolate, vanilla, or fruit-filled. The kind of cake doesn’t matter. What matters is you enjoy! So pick your favorite & have a slice. Completely guilt-free.
November 27:
Tie One on Day: No, you’re not to get drunk for this celebration. You are to tie on an apron and bake something! Then wrap that baked goodie in your apron (or a clean one … we vote for a clean one!), and give it to someone in need. Include a note, too. If you can’t or don’t have time to bake yourself, it’s perfectly fine to buy something to wrap in that apron. The kindness and the encouraging note are the important parts of this celebration.
National Jukebox Day: Celebrate this day with music! Either from the TouchTunes app on your phone or by heading out to select tunes on a real jukebox. Read some inspiring stories about people & their theme songs too.
National Craft Jerky Day: Celebrate small-batch jerky with your favorite craft jerky. Maybe from the founder of the day, Long Beach Jerky Co.
National Bavarian Cream Pie Day: Whether you’re planning pumpkin pie or something else for your Thanksgiving dessert, for the day before enjoy a slice or 2 of Bavarian Cream. Buy or make your favorite Bavarian Cream pie flavor.
November 28:
National French Toast Day: Breakfast is probably an afterthought for most people on Thanksgiving. But this year make your morning meal just as impressive as your main feast with a big plate of French Toast.
National Day of Mourning: As you enjoy your Thanksgiving, take some time to think & learn about the darker side of the day. And honor the Native Americans who suffered then & continue to struggle today.
November 29:
RAK Friday: Is your Black Friday usually a frenzy of running, driving, & stressing? For many people it is. And despite the fact the “shopping season” is supposed to be about getting gifts for others, all too often the day seems supremely selfish. Why not change that up with Random Acts of Kindness instead? You’ll end the day feeling much better.
Electronic Greetings Day: Also called Electronic Greeting Card Day, this day invites us to send e-cards to family, friends, and anyone else whose day you’d like to brighten.
Buy Nothing Day: If you’re anti-Black Friday, this day is for you! And celebrating it couldn’t be simpler. Stay home, away from the crazy crowds. Stay off the shopping websites, too. Keep your credit cards safely tucked away in your wallet. And don’t buy anything!
National Flossing Day: Do you floss regularly? If so, good for you! If not, use this day as an opportunity to change that! Start a (good) new habit by flossing your teeth. Then vow to do the same every day going forward. Not sure if you’re doing it right? Check your technique against this short video.
You’re Welcomegiving Day: On the day after we say “Thanks” we say “You’re Welcome.” So do that, in whatever way works best for you. You could possibly host a dinner for whoever hosted you for Thanksgiving. Unless you hosted Thanksgiving of course …
November 30:
National Mason Jar Day: Celebrate the versatile mason jar! Preferably by using at least one. Use them for their intended purpose & do some canning. Or get creative & find a DIY craft project to turn a jar or two into a vase, a candle holder, pretty storage, or whatever your crafty heart desires.
National Personal Space Day: We all need personal space. But some people need more than others. This day recognizes everyone’s right to decide for themselves how much space is enough. And the right to decline a hug or handshake or other touch without being made to feel awkward. Whether the discomfort or pain is physical or emotional, we can & should respect each other’s space needs.
Stay Home Because You’re Well Day: Don’t take a sick day. Take a well day! Then spend it doing whatever you usually don’t have time for.
National Mousse Day: Make and enjoy mousse for the day! Make a sweet mousse for dessert, of course. But did you realize you can also make savory mousse as part of your meal or an appetizer? Like this goat cheese mousse. Or this vegetable mousse cake (courgettes are zucchini).
December 1:
Antarctica Day: Celebrate the anniversary of the Antarctic Treaty. Twelve nations signed this treaty on Dec. 1, 1959. It protects the Antarctic continent and keeps it as a place for peace and science.
Rosa Parks Day: One of 2 dates celebrating the civil rights icon, December 1 is the anniversary of her arrest for refusing to give up her seat on a bus.
National Eat a Red Apple Day: Do as the day’s name says and eat a red apple! It doesn’t matter if you normally prefer yellow. Or even green. For this day only red apples allowed.
National Pie Day: Yes, this is a different Pie Day from the one in January. And also different from Pi Day in March. But who’s going to complain about another excuse to eat pie? Not us! Our mouths are going to be too full of pie. How about you?
