What to Celebrate November 26 to December 2, 2018
We hope you had a wonderful and thankful Thanksgiving with family and friends. Especially if those friends are family.
If you’re taking advantage of the Black Friday sales, good luck! And stay safe (and sane).
Once you’ve taken care of business for the day it’s time to look ahead. There’s always plenty more to celebrate.
So give the credit card a well-deserved rest and take a peek to plan your week.
And as always …
Enjoy! (and relax…ahhhhh).
Celebrate for the rest of November
You still have several days to get in some celebrating & learning for November’s month-long observances. Like these:
Pet Diabetes Month: Just like humans, animals can get diabetes. And also like humans, pets can live long healthy lives as long as their diabetes is controlled. Learn the signs and how to keep a diabetic animal living its best life as long as possible. This month began as a nationwide campaign in the UK .
National Inspirational Role Models Month: Who’s your role model? Are you living the life your role model would want for you? Better yet, are you being a good role model for others?
And Youngsters on the Air Month is a December celebration designed to get young people excited about amateur radio. But if your amateur radio station wants to be a part of it, make sure you or another organization (whose call sign you may use) has registered before December starts.
And as the week winds down it’ll be time to ramp up …
Operation Santa Paws (December 1 – 24, 2018): Ok, so this one’s not quite a month long. But it’s close! This drive collects supplies, toys, and treats for shelter animals without their own homes for the holidays. Consider donating or making your business a drop-off location.
Weekly Celebrations for Nov. 26 – Dec. 2
There’s not much happening in weekly celebrations for this week.
But we are heading into the final days of National Deal Week (November 21 – 27), which starts the Wednesday before Thanksgiving each year. The week recognizes the insane deals and shopping frenzy of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which kick off the holiday shopping season. If you take part in this annual “event,” good luck to you!
And the end of the week is the beginning of National Cookie Cutter Week (December 1 – 7). Just in time for cookie baking season! (We think that’s probably not a coincidence). What are your favorite cookie cutters?
Celebration Days coming up for Nov. 26 thru Dec. 2
Of course Monday is Cyber Monday, the day to get amazing deals online. But try to step away from the virtual world for at least a little while. Maybe to get some free cider at a local business?
But don’t stop there … Give back on Tuesday (and enjoy some Bavarian Cream Pie as a reward!).
Then protect your packages, go square dancing, and make a drink with rhubarb vodka.
Use that drink to toast to another fun-tastic week!
November 26:
Cider Monday: This day started in 2013 as a way to get shoppers away from their computers and into local stores … with free cider! The idea came from a bookstore in New Hampshire. And it seems to have grown each year since.
National Cake Day: On this one day you might really be able to have your cake and eat it too! So score some deals, warm up with some free cider, and enjoy a big slice of your favorite cake. Now that’s a perfect day! Do you prefer yellow cake or chocolate cake?
November 27:
Giving Tuesday: A day to give back to your community and the world. Give money, your time, or even your voice. Whatever you can do … no gesture is too small.
National Bavarian Cream Pie Day: How can pudding or custard in a pie crust be so yummy? We don’t know, but it is! So enjoy some today. It’s pretty simple to make, and you can go beyond plain vanilla or chocolate too. Here’s a collection of recipes to try.
National Craft Jerky Day: Skip the convenience store packages of dried meats & savor the flavor of small-batch, craft jerky. This day is different from National Jerky Day in June.
November 28:
National Package Protection Day: The holiday season is, of course, a big one for package deliveries. And for package theft. That makes it the perfect time to remind you of ways to protect those packages, too. Ring, maker of the Video Doorbell, created this day in 2016.
National French Toast Day: Start your morning right with a big plate of yummy French Toast. Add cinnamon or nuts. Top it with syrup, whipped cream, or fresh fruit. Or all 3! There’s no wrong way to eat it. Not sure how to make it? Try this recipe.
Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting: If your holiday season doesn’t “officially” start until the Rockefeller Center lights its tree, here you go! See it in person if you can or tune in to the live broadcast on NBC.
November 29:
National Square Dancing Day: It’s time to do-si-do! Square dancing is fun and great exercise. So grab your partner (and 3 other couples) and hit the dance floor! Did you know this dance originally came to America from the UK?
Electronic Greetings Day: This day seems kinda’ quaint today, since most greetings these days are the electronic kind. We suspect the day was created back when email and ecards were new and novel. Just the same, head over to an e-greeting site (like BlueMountain or 123Cards) and send some ecards to friends and family in honor of the day.
November 30:
National Mason Jar Day: Celebrate the simple but oh-so-useful mason jar! From canning to crafting to miscellaneous storage, these jars do it all.
Computer Security Day: This day has been around since 1988. Long before the average person had a computer at home, much less in a pocket. But now these devices run our lives. And contain lots of personal information. So take some time on this day to make sure your computers are as secure as possible. Here are 3 tips to get you started.
Stay Home Because You’re Well Day: Tom & Ruth Roy of Wellcat strike again! Call off from work. Not because you’re sick but because you’re well. And then enjoy a well-earned day of rest. Or fun. Or both!
National Mousse Day: After using mason jars, making your computers secure, and enjoying your day off, treat yourself to a rich, creamy treat. And unlike Chocolate Mousse Day in April, you get to choose the mousse flavor you prefer. Maybe a lemon mousse? Or go savory, like this Parmesan Mousse. It’s perfect as a veggie topping!
December 1:
National Rhubarb Vodka Day: On the 1st Saturday in December we celebrate the unique tartness of rhubarb vodka. Maple River Distillery first introduced rhubarb vodka to the world. And fans of the stuff have been very creative with cocktail ideas! To celebrate the day have a shot of rhubarb vodka or make a Rhubarb Pie Martini (or other cocktail).
World Pear Day: Also on the 1st Saturday in December we eat pears. There will be pear tasting/sampling events around the world. See if there’s one near you!
Rosa Parks Day: One of 2 days honoring this American civil rights icon. One celebrates her birthday in February. This one celebrates the day she was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on the bus for a white passenger, on December 1, 1955.
December 2:
National Mutt Day: For some reason, people tend to use the word “mutt” in negative ways. But all it means is “mixed-breed.” And there’s nothing wrong with mixed breeds! They’re fun and loving and lovable. If you have a mutt, give him or her extra love & treats for this day. If you’re thinking of adding a new dog to the family, head down to the shelter and check out the “mutts.” (And remember, most people are mixtures of different races & ethnicities—in other words “mutts”—these days too, so let’s not judge!).
National Fritters Day: Enjoy fritters all day! What’s your favorite fritter? Corn? Potato? Banana? Apple? Sweet potato? So many to choose from!
Safety Razor Day: Yes, there’s really a day dedicated to the safety razor. If you’re shaving on this day, make sure it’s with a safety razor!
Hanukkah: The Festival of Lights begins at sunset on Dec. 2 this year. To our Jewish friends: Hanukkah sameach!
Woohoo – best day ever! TY for sharing the love for our holiday – National Mason Jar Day! We are very excited to see how people celebrate the day! unboxingthebizarre.com
We love mason jars! Thank you for creating the day so we can celebrate it. 😊
