Celebrate Nature Photography Day Every June 15
Summer is a time to get out and enjoy nature, and June 15 gives you the perfect excuse: Nature Photography Day.
Now don’t worry if you’re not a great photographer. Anyone can celebrate. All it takes is access to nature and a camera!
The North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA) started the day in 2006. The goal was to promote conservation and protection of all nature (wildlife, flowers, etc) through the beauty of nature photography.

Ideas For How to Celebrate Nature Photography Day
Grab a camera (or use your phone’s camera) and go take pictures of nature.
There’s no limit on what kinds of pictures you can take:
- Flowers
- Landscapes
- Insects
- Ponds or lakes
- Mountains
It’s all up to you. And the kinds of things nearby, of course. If you don’t live near mountains, then mountain shots could be hard to get! ;)
You can take your pictures in your own yard or go to the park or forest preserve.
You might also like to take part in one of NANPA’s online Nature Photography Day events:
- Like the NANPA Facebook page. If you want to enter the photo contest, this is where you’ll enter (click on “Photo Contest” in the left menu).
- Join the NANPA Facebook group.
- Follow NANPA on Instagram.
Anyone can participate in these events. Membership in NANPA not required.
Get your family and friends involved too. Have a group outing to take pictures, or see which one of you can win in the contest.
This could be a great day to get the kids interested in nature and/or photography.
Not sure you’re up to the challenge? Get tips on Improving Wildlife Photography and start practicing! Even if you don’t take any contest-worthy pics this year, with regular nature photo sessions, you’ll be ready for next year!
