Celebrate World Plumbing Day Every March 11

World Plumbing Day - March 11

March 11 is World Plumbing Day

On March 11 we celebrate indoor toilets, bathtubs, kitchen sinks, washing machines. Basically anything that exists because of indoor plumbing.

Why? Because it’s World Plumbing Day, of course.

This is an international day to celebrate the importance of plumbing in our lives. And it is more important than most people realize. It helps keep us safe and healthy.

Yes, really, it’s that important.

Those of us who have it probably pretty much take it for granted. Except when something goes wrong. Then we curse and fume and call the plumber. But once it’s fixed, we forget about it again.

For billions of people in developing countries, though, plumbing is poor or non-existent. And that’s a problem. Without plumbing they face higher risk of diseases from drinking unclean water. Millions die from water-borne diseases every year.

The World Plumbing Council started World Plumbing Day in 2010.

Even the U.S. Senate agrees plumbing is important. In 2012, the Senate passed a measure designating March 11 as World Plumbing Day.

And from 2005-2015 we had the United Nations International Decade for Action “Water for Life.” This decade was supposed to focus on world issues related to water, like access to clean, safe drinking water.
