Celebrate National Blueberry Cheesecake Day Every May 26
On May 26 we celebrate the combination of creamy cheese filling and blueberry topping that is the blueberry cheesecake. For it is National Blueberry Cheesecake Day.
We don’t know who created the day or why. But we also don’t care … It’s an excuse to eat blueberry cheesecake, and that’s good enough for us!
A Bite of Cheesecake Trivia
Cheesecake existed as far back as Ancient Greece. But those were just plain cheesecakes, as far as we know.
(There’s absolutely nothing wrong with just plain cheesecake!)
Flavored cheesecakes arrived much more recently.
The ingredients in cheesecake vary by location:
- Here in America, we usually use cream cheese for the filling.
- In Italy they use ricotta (of course!).
- Germans and Poles use a type of curd cheese called “quark” cheese.
- The Japanese emulsify cornstarch and eggs, creating a flan-like filling.
One of the most popular cheesecake flavors is today’s honoree: the blueberry cheesecake.
You’re probably familiar with the usual graham cracker crust. Did you know you can also make a cheesecake crust with other crushed cookies, a pastry crust or even sponge cake? It’s true!
And one tidbit of blueberry trivia: The blueberry’s blue color comes from antioxidant flavinoids called anthocyanins. The compound develops as the berries mature, so they start out green and turn blue later.

Ideas to Celebrate National Blueberry Cheesecake Day
Celebrating Blueberry Cheesecake Day is as simple as eating blueberry cheesecake.
We love these holidays that are super simple to figure out!
But remember: Blueberry cheesecake. Not chocolate cheesecake. Not caramel cheesecake. Not pumpkin, cherry or lemon-raspberry cheesecake.
Only blueberry! Got it?
Good.
In case you need a recipe, here are a few that look just divine:
- Mini Blueberry Cheesecakes: Perfect portions. No fighting over who gets the bigger slice.
- Blueberry Cheesecake: A good, solid recipe with a plain filling and blueberry glaze for the top. Vanilla wafers make the crust.
- The Best Blueberry Cheesecake: “The Best” is not our opinion, it’s part of the name.
- No-Bake Blueberry Cheesecake with Graham Cracker Crust: Blueberries throughout the filling and on top!
And for a slight twist, have your blueberry cheesecake for breakfast with these Blueberry Cheesecake Flapjacks.
