Celebrate World Naked Gardening Day the First Saturday in May
May is full of people taking their clothes off! The first Friday of the month is No Pants Day. And the very next day (most years, anyway) is World Naked Gardening Day!
Seriously, Spring fever must hit hard by May. ;)
The point of this day? Tend to your garden in your natural state … Sans clothes.
And it really doesn’t matter what you garden.
Your flower garden. Vegetable garden. Cleaning up your back yard after winter. Even planting flowers in your window box can count.
According to the day’s website, the first World Naked Gardening Day happened on Saturday, September 10, 2005. The date moved to the first Saturday in May in 2007.
Why Naked Gardening?
Why not? It’s fun!
It feels a little naughty to go outside without clothes. But it also feels good. The warmth of the sun on your whole body is amazing. The tickle of a gentle breeze feels like a kiss. And even if it’s raining it feels great–no clothes to get wet and heavy and stick to you!
And gardening itself is a way to commune with the earth. So why not go all the way & commune with nature … naturally?
On the other hand, way back in 2005, shortly before the very first World Naked Gardening Day, blogger Charles G. Hill at Dustbury suggested a few disadvantages to this activity.

How to Celebrate World Naked Gardening Day
Get out in your garden without clothes and get busy digging in the soil, planting seeds or seedlings, mulching. Whatever your garden needs.
Do it alone, with your family, with friends. It doesn’t matter. Just garden naked!
Now, we’ve seen suggestions to even make quick trips to public parks to garden naked. How good this idea is might depend on where you live. Getting arrested for public indecency isn’t a good way to celebrate Naked Gardening Day (or any day for that matter).
In fact, it might be a good idea to check your local ordinances before getting naked. Most places should let you do what you want in the privacy of a fenced back yard. But if your naked butt will be visible to all your neighbors or passersby on the street, it might be a different story.
So if you can, get out there and plant some Naked ladies (those are flowers!) or whatever else strikes your fancy.
Gardening gloves optional. ;)
